Lamberts brings the safety of young children into the spot-light

When the clocks went back in October and the daylight hours decreased, the issue of a child’s safety as they walk along busy roads in the dark again became the main topic of conversation.  Too often a child is hurt, or worse, in a road accident because they were just ‘not seen’.  Teachers across the country were explaining to their pupils the importance of ‘being safe and being seen’ by other road users.

Sprowston Junior School took the matter very seriously and now has its own stock of hi-viz vests, adorned with their school logo, to keep its pupils (and staff) safe on the roads.  The vests, kindly donated by Lamberts (Norwich) Ltd, are used during school trips to local amenities and places of interest, and loaned to pupils for their walk to and from school.

“It is so kind of Lamberts to donate these vests” said Sprowston Junior School Deputy Head, David Arthur.  “We make good use of local facilities such as local churches, sports venues, and other schools, and we try to walk with the children as often as we can.”

Walking is a great way to be physically active, and encouraging children to walk from an early age is an investment for the future - developing road awareness and building positive habits for an active life as an adult.  Walking to and from school benefits children and parents alike, as well as helping the environment by reducing our carbon footprints.

“These waist coats are great’” said 10yr old Lyla, a pupil at the school. “I feel like a bright shining star so I know the cars will see me.”

Mr Arthur added “The vests help to make sure our pupils and staff are not only visible but also instantly recognisable with the great branding that Lamberts have applied to the back of the garments.”

The hi-viz vests are available in child and adult sizes and can have text and graphics applied to the fronts and back.  Supplied and branded by Lamberts the 75 vests which were donated to Sprowston Junior School have a retail value of £200 – a small price to pay for the safety of our future generation.

“We were extremely happy to support the pupils at Sprowston Junior School in this way,” said Neill Ives, our Commercial Director here at Lamberts, “and I would like to think that every school and youth organisation in the region will follow the initiative.”
